What's the most memorable building you've lived in?

It only just occurred to me now, when I was thinking about this question, that I've actually lived in three buildings which also housed art galleries -- all equally memorable! One was in Dunedin, New Zealand in the early 90s -- the top floor of a wonderful turn-of-the-century, triangular, brick building, with Marshall Seifert Gallery on the 2nd floor. Since our floor used to be an office, we actually used the old walk-in safe -- with its 10-inch thick door -- as our pantry! Also in the early 90s, I lived in a warehouse in Wellington, New Zealand, along with 33 1/3 Gallery (now defunct). I used to crawl out my window and wander around the rooftops of the neighbouring buildings -- pity about the paper-thin walls though. No sound privacy! The last was a large studio inside the (also defunct) Ether Ohnetitel Gallery in Melbourne, Australia, in the mid 90s. That was also probably the strangest: my shower/toilet were actually located inside the gallery and I had to time my showering/ablutions around the gallery opening hours and the painting between shows (they stored all the paint in the same room that housed my shower). How funny, when I think about it!

Oh, come on now, that last one was GREAT!! :P (For those who don't know, I lived in an apartment... read more
